Resident EMT or Firefighter Program |

Red Lodge Fire Rescue operates, as able, a resident firefighter / EMT program. The purposes of the program include better guaranteeing a minimum response of fire / EMS apparatus to emergency calls, recruitment of volunteer and career personnel, and the opportunity for program participants to obtain experience in the fire / emergency medical service in exchange for service to Red Lodge Fire Rescue. The first person to participate in the program did so over the summer of 2010, and the program was a success. Participants live in one of the private dorms in the fire station, with free board, in exchange for service to the department. The station is equipped with comfortable private quarters, a full kitchen, shower/restroom facilities, and a comfortable dayroom. While participating in the program, participants are able to take part in fire/EMS training as well as get hands-on experience. The program is overseen by a resident program coordinator, which is one of the full-time staff members.
Minimum General Requirements for Participants:
· 18 years of age or older. · High school diploma or equivalent. · Valid Montana driver’s license. · Verifiable good driving record and pass a criminal background check · Current Montana EMT license (for resident EMT) · Current CPR card. · Participants must adhere to RLFR policy on resident program, May 2010
Additional Requirements for Participants – Fire Division:
· Successful completion of fitness test at the arduous level (pack test) either before or immediately after admission into the resident program. · Successful completion of basic wildland firefighter class is required if resident is to be allowed to go on wildland fires.
Application / Acceptance Process:
· A standard department application must be completed and turned in. · Complete an interview with department officers to include, at minimum, the fire chief or deputy chief, and an assistant chief and one association officer from the division/s in which the participant is will be working. · Pass a criminal background check and a driving record check.
