    FOUNDATION FUNDRAISING INFO DONATE DONATIONS INFO FOUNDATION The purpose of the Red Lodge Fire-EMS Foundation is to provide financial and other support to the Fire, EMS and Search and Rescue divisions of Red Lodge Fire Rescue and and their respective members. This support is broad-based and comprehensive, and extends to providing material and equipment support as needed by each division to accomplish its mission, as well as emergency need-based grants and loans to the members in good standing of Red Lodge Fire Rescue. Annually, the Foundation selectively provides post-secondary school educational scholarships to children of qualified members of Red Lodge Fire Rescue to help defray the costs of post-secondary school education or vocational training. The Foundation also selectively extends financial support to members of Red Lodge Fire Rescue on a need-basis to enable them to obtain and further their professional training and/or other educational goals. The Foundation is a non-profit, tax exempt (501(c)(3)) corporation. The Foundation's Board of Directors is comprised of current and former members of Red Lodge Fire Rescue. FUNDRAISING FUNDRAISING INFO FUNDRAISING The Foundation also administers a comprehensive annual fund-raising effort to support the Foundation's activities as well as the activities of Red Lodge Volunteer Firefighter's Association, Inc., Red Lodge EMS Association, Inc. and Carbon County Search & Rescue. These non-profit, tax exempt (501(c)(3)) organizations also support the Fire, EMS and Search and Rescue divisions of Red Lodge Fire Rescue and their respective members. In order to consolidate their collective fund-raising efforts to make the process more efficient and cost-effective, the Foundation and these organizations have entered into an agreement authorizing the Foundation to solicit, receive and disburse donations from the public on behalf of the Foundation and each of the other participating organizations. A ll donations received by the Foundation are used to support the activities of the Foundation and each of the other participating organizations on an as-needed basis. Any donation received by the Foundation that is specifically designated by the donor for the benefit of a specific organization will, however, be disbursed by the Foundation to the specified organization.     SEARCH & RESCUE Volunteers Statistics Search and Rescue Division With the Absaroka - Beartooth Wilderness at our back door, the inviting backroads in the Pryors and, public lands in every direction, Carbon County draws adventurers from across the globe. Despite the best laid plans, even the most experienced outdoors person can get into trouble in the backcountry. That is why the SAR Division is ready at a moment’s notice. Because the area draws day-hikers, backpackers, climbers, skiers, hunters, and many other outdoor enthusiasts. Our search and rescue team has to have a broad skill set and be ready for any type of weather. Team members are trained in backcountry navigation, wilderness first aid, technical high & low-angle rope rescues, helicopter evacuations, and many other skills needed to assist in rescue operations. SAR members respond to: -Lost person searches (urban, front and backcountry) -Backcountry Injuries -Rope rescues (low and high angle including ice rescue) -Avalanche and Swift Water Rescues -Support for the Sheriff’s office, other Divisions and agencies -Evacuation notification In Montana, the county sheriff has the responsibility for providing Search and Rescue services. In Carbon County, the Sheriff’s office has contracted with Red Lodge Fire Rescue to provide SAR in our area. VOLUNTEERS IN SAR Red Lodge Search and Rescue is open to anyone in Carbon County and membership is not limited to persons with emergency response backgrounds. A basic fitness level, the ability to perform both in and out of doors, a positive attitude, a willingness to adapt and be a team player, a commitment to safety, and professionalism is a must for this division. A limited number of SAR applications are accepted each year. Training and Benefits SAR volunteers have a passion for and extensive experience in the outdoors and are driven to serve the community. SAR calls rarely happen at convenient times or in good weather. Typically, responders have very flexible schedules and are able to come to calls at all times of the day and year. Our average volunteer fulfills over 40 hours of training and responds to at least 5 calls annually. Meetings and training are held on the first Wednesday, third weekend and fourth Thursday of the month so having this time available in your schedule is important. Fitness is imperative to the job and members make physical and mental health and activity a priority. All new SAR members take part in a 6 month Recruit Training during which they learn the basics needed to respond to SAR calls. The academy begins in early January and typically ends by mid-June. SAR members must take a physical agility test annually – usually in the spring and maintain certification in CPR and Wilderness First Aid. Training is an ongoing process, and our team meets at least twice a month to prepare. Members of SAR are not compensated monetarily for their time, all of our members are eligible for our incentives program and as a member, you and your family have access to the camaraderie of a great group of people, our gym, pre-training meals, Peer Support, and more. Being “On Call” Red Lodge SAR members are not expected to be “on call”, however, we do ask that you respond to pages if you are available. Calls can last anywhere from minutes to days and we understand that not all members can respond to all missions for the duration. All help is appreciated! Over time, the emotional strain of constant support can lead to exhaustion, emotional detachment, and numbness. In fact, Shannon’s own compassion fatigue and struggle to find support is one of the reasons Stack of Stones was started in the first place. This brief training will help you understand more about what CF is and how it might be impacting you. - 8 min Visit Training Guardian Mental Health 101 Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a course that taught you exactly how to protect your mental health? Well hot-diggity-damn, here you go. Shannon took what she learned from 1000s of client sessions and turned it into a straightforward, practical set of steps. The course will teach you how to build a mental health protocol that is specific for your individual needs, all in six easy online lessons. You aren't alone. Transitioning from work to home is a common source of tension for guardians. In this training we will discuss four ways to reset before walking in the door. We don’t have a magic wand to completely fix the problem, but in this training we discuss some specific steps you can take to help. Based on the framework from the Psychologically Healthy Fire Departments initiative, this course focuses on six key practices - member involvement, health and safety, member growth and development, work-life balance, member recognition, and effective communication - to facilitate member well-being and department functioning. Visit Training Stress and Life Management – Finding Your Balance as a Volunteer This course looks at all the roles a volunteer firefighter plays throughout their lives. From your role as an employee to spouse to parent to firefighter, how do you emphasize the importance, purpose, and balance of each role? Learn strategies for prioritizing each aspect of your life to help you achieve balance and time management. This course is available through the NVFC’s Virtual Classroom and is free to NVFC members. This course educates families and friends of first responders on the impacts of the job on mental health and what they can do to support their loved one. It is something we all carry if we do this work, but what do we do about it? The first step it to understand a bit more about what trauma actually is - this brief training will give you a quick overview. - 7 min Visit Training Moral Injury Moral injury is one of the most un-noticed mental health risks of the job if you work as a first responder or in healthcare/deathcare. It is subtle and sneaky. The brief training below will teach you what it is and how to assess for it. - 4 min Visit Training How To: Combat Burnout If you find yourself increasingly frustrated with the people around you, it’s time to have a little chat about burnout. In this training we will review the symptoms of burnout and some steps you can take to avoid it. Duration: 27 minutes Cost: $5 Visit Training How-To: Talk to your Significant Other About the Hard Days When you serve as a guardian, it can be challenging to know how much to share when you get home. You don’t want to traumatize your significant other, but it would also be nice if you can describe your day. In this training, we walk through some key questions to help you re-discover what "fun" looks like in this phase of your life. Duration: 27 minutes Cost: $5 Visit Training Psychologically Healthy Fire Departments: Implementation Toolkit The Psychologically Healthy Fire Departments: Implementation Toolkit (Second Edition) is designed to help fire department leaders promote and foster well-being among their members. Having a healthy and engaged workforce creates successful, high-performing departments. The toolkit covers the six key categories of member involvement, health and safety, member growth and development, work-life balance, member recognition, and effective communication. Each category is examined along with specific actions that can be taken, special issues to consider, case studies from successful departments, and additional resources. The toolkit was developed in collaboration with psychologists, including members and staff of the American Psychological Association. If you are in the beginning stages of building a wellness program, take some time to watch our free 30-minute training on changing the culture of your organization. Participants will learn: How to use the Stress Continuum to recognize and communicate early signs of stress injury Characteristics of stress injury, including physical and relational impacts, to be aware of and mitigate How Green Choices can support a return to vitality and enjoying long, healthy careers How to use an Individual Resilience Plan to customize, plan, and track easy interventions for mitigating stress early Visit Training Incident Support for Traumatic Stress This training provides a novel framework for managing Potentially Traumatic Events (PTEs). The Incident Support Framework is the first of its kind to align dynamic support with individual needs. It was developed based on extensive scientific literature showing that historic post-incident methods may unfortunately do more harm than good. Through expert analysis and years helping teams manage major incidents, we've developed this framework to make sure each responder's needs are met. Participants will learn: How to recognize events that are potentially traumatic Use of the Incident Support Tool to appraise exposure at the end of an incident How to determine which responders need support, and how much support to offer Use of the 3-3-3 Protocol to provide lateral support in the days, weeks, and months post-incident When to refer a partner or colleague on to clinical care Visit Training Addressing Substance Abuse, PTSD, and Other Concerns in the Fire Service This course examines PTSD and types of substance abuse frequently seen in the fire service, how PTSD can relate to substance abuse, and how to get help through the NVFC’s Share the Load Program.     EMS Volunteers Statistics EMT Classes CPR Classes RLFR EMS DIVIS ION If you or a loved one ever faces a medical emergency, rest assured, you’re in good hands. The EMS Division team includes skilled paramedics as well as emergency medical technicians (EMTs) who are usually ready at a moment’s notice. They provide a level of care that’s not often found in communities our size. Red Lodge EMS provides: -911 medical response at a BLS to critical care level including: -medical emergencies -CPR, Strokes, and other time-sensitive emergencies -motor vehicle accidents -structure fires -search and rescue -mental health emergencies -other accidents and trauma-related calls -Interfacility transfers -EMT, EMR, CPR, and first aid education -Event standbys -Community Paramedicine -Support for other Divisions and agencies VOLUNTEERS IN EMS Volunteers We offer the following volunteer opportunities in the EMS Division: -Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) -Advanced EMT -Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) -Paramedic -Driver (no medical license reqiredd) If you are not currently licensed, we offer EMT level classes annually and EMR classes when demand and capacity allows. We are happy to take people that are already licensed in Montana as an EMR or above. Being a member of EMS and being “On Call” EMS is the most demanding division at RLFR in terms of call volume, responding to almost 700 calls a year. One-third of these calls for service are patient transfers from Red Lodge to Billings, a round trip of at least 3 hours. EMS volunteers are self-motivated and driven to serve the community. Our average volunteer fulfills over 400 on-call hours (about 3 shifts a month), responds to over 3 calls a month and attends over 40 hours of training annually. Meetings and trainings are held on Wednesday evenings, so having this time available in your schedule is important. We request that members sign up for on-call shifts. Typical call shifts are 12 hours although you can sign up for shorter periods of time. You can make these work with your schedule and sleeping quarters are available at the station. You will also have the opportunity to sign up for events and do work around the station and in the community. Training and Benefits We have a robust continuing education program with training opportunities at least 3 Wednesday per month. Most of these trainings are designed to be compliant with NREMT requirements for recertification. Others focus on scenarios, specific skills and Red Lodge EMS procedures. Active EMS members receive a monetary stipend for calls, transfers, and standbys. Additionally, to show our appreciation for the many hours members put in, our members are eligible for our incentives program. As a member, you and your family have access to the camaraderie of a great group of people, our gym, pre-training meals, Peer Support, and more.
